Online Safety
At RSP we are constantly reminding pupils of the importance of being safe online. As technology and internet usage increases, we feel it is essential that you guide your children on how to use the internet correctly and within parental controls.
In school, our devices are monitored through Sensco. This system monitors both staff and pupils' use of any system or platform in school. This includes how the internet is used. Sensco automatically makes our Designated Safeguarding Lead aware of any internet searches that are concerning or where inappropriate words or language.
Why It’s Important to Check Your Child’s Device Daily
As children begin to explore the digital world, it’s essential that parents stay actively involved in their online lives. We strongly encourage all parents to check their child’s mobile phone or device daily. This helps you stay aware of who they’re communicating with, the apps they’re using, and the content they’re accessing or sharing. Regular checks not only help protect your child from potential online risks such as cyberbullying, inappropriate content, or contact from strangers, but also open the door to important conversations about responsible and safe behaviour online. Just as you would want to know where your child is going in the real world, it’s just as important to know where they are spending time in the digital world.
You can monitor device usage really easily by downloading the Qustodio app. The free version of this app has plenty of useful functions to support monitoring at home.
Our Online Safety Hub also provides parents with a wealth of information on how to keep their children safe online, including information on settings for popular online platforms - many of which have a legal minimum age requirement or require parental consent as part of their terms and conditions.
