Beech and Birch

Welcome to Reception. In Reception, we have two separate classes: Beech and Birch. In Beech our class teacher is called Mrs Lake and in Birch our class teacher is called Mrs Wingfield. We have a few different adults that help us learn including Mrs Samuel and Mrs Lomax.

In reception we all learn together in one very big classroom. Our lessons usually start off on the carpet areas in our two separate classes but then we can move around the classroom and access lots of different learning experiences.

Learning in reception is a little different to the rest of school. We get lots of opportunity to learn through play in a range of areas which include our Home Corner, lots of creative areas and plenty of opportunities to read and write. Our teachers work alongside us asking questions and challenging us to really show off what we can do.

Reading is a huge focus for us. We follow Essential Letters and Sounds for the teaching and learning of reading, which you can find out more about on our reading page. We ask that parents read with us every day at home for just 10 minutes. Adults also read regularly with us in school.

Our PE day is Friday. On PE days, we can come to school in our PE kit. If you are not sure what to wear, visit our uniform pages to find out.

The Rawdon St. Peter’s Curriculum has been written by our teachers. They have made sure our learning experiences are fun, exciting and prepare us for the next steps in our learning. Our Long Term Plans for the reception curriculum are at the bottom of the page but you can also find an overview of what we are learning this half term in the links directly below.

Our teachers in school are always happy to answer any questions you may have. They come on to the playground five minutes before the bell rings each morning to talk to us and our parents. If there isn’t enough time to talk then, they will arrange to ring home at a mutually convenient time. If it’s easier, your class teacher can be contacted via the school office or by emailing either beech@rawdonstpeters.co.uk or birch@rawdonstpeters.co.uk.
