Relationship and Sex Education

As a part of your child’s education at Rawdon St. Peter’s, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

What is Relationships and Sex Education?

  • It is life-long learning about physical, moral and emotional development.
  • It is about the understanding of the importance of family life, stable and loving relationships, respect, care and love.
  • It is also about the teaching of sex, sexuality and sexual health (KS2).
  • It is not about the promotion of sexual orientation or activity.

Lessons include pupils learning about: healthy relationships, including friendships; families; growing and changing, including puberty; personal hygiene; changing feelings; becoming more independent; keeping safe; developing self-esteem and confidence. Pupils will also have opportunities to ask questions.

Lessons are taught in year groups, with a teacher who is well-known by the pupils. It is taught using a range of media including written and practical tasks and a DVD programme. More detail is available in the RSE Policy which is available on the school website.

Through our self-evaluation, we are incredibly proud to have been awarded the PSHCE Friendly Status, which demonstrate our commitment to delivering high quality PSHE across your school.

Should you have any questions about this or any element of the curriculum, please contact your child's class teacher.
